Restorative Yin Yoga Workshop

Yin yoga is a slow, meditative practice that gently stretches the body and helps quieten the mind. In Eastern traditions, Yin is a complement to Yang; yin yoga can therefore become a complement of a more dynamic practice, cultivating a sense of letting go. The practice consists in a series of poses that are held for a substantial period of time (3-5 mins). By switching the parasympathetic nervous system, this practice helps reverse the effects of stress and cultivate a sense of equanimity.

This workshop invites you to spend 2 hours connecting body, mind and breath in a soft yet deep yoga practice. All poses have modifications, so beginners to yoga are welcome. Props will be used extensively. Since poses are mostly floor-based, please bring warmer clothes and socks!

Yoga, inside and out

Yoga, inside and out

Turn it upside down! with balance...

When faced with any kind of instability, physical or mental, most of us tend to recoil immediately and try to regain control by locking things tightly in place. Ironically, this reaction only serves to make us more rigid and less able to make minute and sensitive adjustments to bring ourselves back into balance.

In this class we'll focus on some pranayamas techniques to tune-in the body and mind with the breath, we'll then move into the actions needed to integrate the body with various Inversions, drawing on our core strength - which comes from continuity between the navel, spine, pelvic floor and inner legs.

Be ready to have fun and work hard in a safe and explorative environment.

Baby Massage Course

Our next Baby Massage Course begins on Tuesday 13th Feb and runs every week for six weeks.

This course will help you develop simple techniques to meet your baby’s changing needs and support each new developmental stage. Classes run over 6 weeks and last an hour. Strokes are reviewed and there will always be time to catch up if you miss a session. Each session begins with a relaxation for you and we then focus on a different area of baby's body. We will cover a full body massage for baby and learn how to soothe colic. There will be time for discussion after each class and the aim is to spend some quality time bonding with your baby by using a combination of gentle moves, loving, nurturing touch and singing soothing lullabies. You will get a chance to bond with your baby, meet other mums and build your confidence as a parent. Baby massage can help you to communicate with your baby through loving touch, and will enhance your baby’s health and well being, helping to relieve issues such as colic, and encouraging a deeper sleep.

To book the Baby Massage course please go to to our timetable page, go to the first course date and select 'book'.

Gong Bath

Our Gong Bath and Guided Meditation sessions are specifically created to support those feeling pressured by current personal or worldly events. There can be so much turmoil in the world sometimes that we begin to feel overwhelmed or disempowered. This is especially the case for younger adults who also bear the added pressure of being the next generation. We try to mitigate this feeling during the session, by beginning with a focus on deep relaxation and a trust that all will work out for the greater good. We recommend that you wear warm layers including socks, as body temperature drops quickly in a deeply relaxed state - even though effraspace has under-floor heating! You may also want to bring a candle in a jar.

Gong Baths are contra-indicated if you are pregnant, have a pacemaker, or suffer from serious mental illness. Some medical implants are fine, although please ask the instructor first if you are unsure. Gong Bathing is otherwise beneficial for all. Prices are £15 for adults and £10 for teens/tweens.

Pram Chorus Course

Pram Chorus Course

Our Pram Chorus course begins Wednesday 10th Jan and runs for 11 weeks.

Pram Chorus is a fun and friendly daytime choir for mums, dads, grandparents, expectant mothers, nannies and anyone else looking after small people. Everyone is welcome! It's about YOU doing something creative and fun for yourself, where your little one is also welcome (in all their vocal glory!) So bring your bumps and babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers and come to sing a huge variety of adult songs - no nursery rhymes.

Founded in South London, UK, the groups meet weekly in term-time and are taught by ear (without sheet music) so that you have your hands free to hold a little one, dance or click along. Just as important as the singing is the social side with everyone staying on after sessions for a bit of a chat.

You don't need to have any singing experience or talent, nor do you have to make small talk or discuss the intricacies of your baby's feeding/sleeping habits (although of course you can) - you can just rock up and sing!

To book Pram Chorus please go to to our timetable page, go to the first course date and select 'book'.
